Former Chief Minister and Congress candidate from Amritsar Capt Amarinder Singh said that the BJP candidate Arun Jaitley had already lost his confidence in the workers and supporters from Amritsar and has thus started importing people from outside.Addressing an impressive public meeting at Sultanwind in Amritsar South assembly segment organised by Harjinder Singh Thekedar here last evening, Capt Amarinder referred to Jaitley’s statement that a number of RSS and BJP workers, besides some film stars, had already come to Amritsar to campaign for him.“Either he has lost his confidence or he has no faith in local workers of his own party”, the Congress leader remarked, while adding, “otherwise there is no reason or logic in bringing workers from outside”. “Elections are not won by glamour but the grass-roots appeal”, he said, while remarking, “but I can understand since Jaitley does not know as he happens to be new to electoral politics”.
Capt Amarinder reiterated his questions to Jaitely asking him to answer those. He asked, him as to list one single contribution he has made to Gujarat during his 14 years of Rajya Sabha Member from there. “If he could not do anything for the people of Gujarat who sent him to parliament through backdoor, what can he do for you?” he asked amidst cheers and applause from the crowd.“Even here he is not trusting his own party workers how will he trust you?” he asked, saying Jaitely was a migratory bird who had flown to this part of the country and will soon fly back once the elections are over.Among others present on the occasion included Bir Devinder Singh, Harjinder Singh Thekedar, Gurjeet Aujla, Rajeev Bhagat, Ashwani Pappu and others.
