The Congress today complained to the Election Commission of India against the import of some dreaded criminals, already convicted for heineous crimes like murder and undergoing sentence in difference jails, to Amritsar with the apparent motive of intimidating and hoodwinking the Congress supporters and workers.Karanpal Sekhon, the Election Agent of Capt Amarinder Singh in his complaint disclosed that three notorious criminals Ankur Likhari, Sanjiv Baba and Sonu Kangla who were convicted and sentenced for various jail terms for murder and other crimes were being seen in the town. He said, inquiries revealed that they were deliberately brought here at the behest of the ruling alliance to create an atmosphere of fear and terror among the people.

The complaint said, the three criminals were spotted with the Akali workers and leaders apparently to convey a message to their political opponents with obvious intentions.Giving details, it said, Ankur Likhari from the Jethuwall village, Attari has recently been granted parole. Sanjiv Baba from Sharipura had been sighted in Amritsar and the notorious Sonu Kangla, Sultan Wind Road, Ward Number 37 Taran Taaran road has been transferred from the Nabha jail to the Amritsar jail. These notorious criminals have been re-introduced into Amritsar for the sole purpose of using their presence, their associates etc. to criminalise the atmosphere, intimidate local residents and influence them to vote against the Congress and in favour of the BJP Candidate Arun Jaitley.Appealing the commission to take strict note of the issue, the party sought immediate enquiry and immediate directions to the concerned authorities that to ensure that these criminals are immediately removed from District Amritsar during the pendency of the present elections and also no parole orders are issued to criminals based in Amritsar / transfers to Jails in Amritsar which would ensure that there is no augmentation of the criminal atmosphere here.
