Information & Broadcasting Minister Sh. Manish Tewari today emphasized upon the need for equal and equitable representation of women in the work force if Indian aspired to make the 21st Century to be truly an Indian Century. Appreciating the fact that the participation of women in the work force was gradually on the rise, Sh Tewari underlined the need for creating a free and a safe environment for the women. He said this while addressing at the annual convocation of Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, Ludhiana in Punjab today. 

On its part, Sh Tewari said, the government is putting in all the effort to provide a free and a safe atmosphere to the women folk, but legal and administrative action alone cannot succeed unless the society also pitches in and supports the government effort. The Minister said that on their part, the women also will have to play a bigger role in eliminating social evils including the bane of drug abuse. He said that there are certain areas, where the women are being ignored and have to face all types of discrimination and have to tackle all kinds of prejudices.

Felicitating the students, Sh. Tewari exhorted them to strive for excellence in the present globalised world and valiantly accept the challenges which the life throws up. Sh Tewari opined that there was a need for providing education with a blend of cultural, social, moral and spiritual values. Sh. Tewari added that India has a huge demographic pidend and it has a much younger work force as compared to other nations of the world and this work force is needed to be put on a constructive path for building a strong nation.

Earlier, the Minister conferred degrees on 841 students including 373 Post Graduates. Welcoming the Chief Guest, Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Charanjit Kaur Mahal highlighted the achievements of college in various academic, sports and extra curricular activities. Mr. Gurbir Singh, President of Guru Nanak Education Trust presented the vote of thanks. On the occasion Mr. Tewari was honored by the institution with a memento. Othres present on the occasion included former Minister Malkit Singh Dakha, DCC (U) President Pawan Dewan, Amarjit Singh Tikka, Dharamjit Khera and others.
