Under Punjab Government ambitious mission-Tandarust Punjab, the District Level Competition of under-14 (Boys/Girls) for 2018-19 session, is being organized by Department of Sports in Multi-purpose Sports stadium of Mansa.Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait and former MLA and Senior Congress leader Mr. Ajit Inder Singh Mofar jointly inaugurated the sports event. Addressing the players, Mr. Mofar said that youngsters of the state need such sports events to boost their morale in the field of games. Categorically highlighting the new sports policy of Punjab Government, he motivated players to participate in sports with full dedication.Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait lauded Punjab Government's decision of enhancing the award money for the Commonwealth and Asian games' medal winners, under which Olympian Swaran Singh Virk and Sukhmeet Singh of the district were given Rs one crore each. She also congratulated Olympian Swaran Singh Virk and international player Jagdeep Singh Kahlon for their outstanding performances in sports. Encouraging sportsperson, she assured that similar events will continue in the district in future. She appreciated the efforts of the district sports officer, Mansa Mr. Harpinder Singh and staff to conduct such a enthusiastic event.
Inauguration ceremony was followed by Judo-karate and Bhangra.
Apart from this, 600 meters (boys/girls) races were conducted during the opening ceremony, in which- Sukhdeep Kaur, Jaspreet Kaur and Parneet Kaur secured first, second and third positions respectively in girls' category. Similarly, in boys category, Ved Prasad got first position and Senti Kumar remained second, while Harnoor Singh clinched third position.
