The killing of scholar turned militant sparked a valley wide shutdown on Friday while curfew like situation prevailed in Lolab and adjacent area of Kupwara district.All the shops, business establishments, and educational institutions across Kashmir remained closed while the traffic also remained off the roads in civil lines and uptown Srinagar though few private vehicles, besides cabs and three-wheelers, were seen plying on some routes.The shutdown call was given by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprised of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, and Muhammad Yasin Malik across Kashmir against the killing of a two militants including Dr Manan Wani at Shatgund area of Handwara town.Train service across Kashmir also remained suspended on both Srinagar to Baramulla and Srinagar to Banihal track for the “precautionary measures”.In a bid to foil possible protests, authorities imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar city and disallowed Friday congregational prayers at historic Jamia Masjid.   Strict restrictions were imposed in restive parts of Srinagar. Geelani continues to be under house arrest. Mirwaiz was placed under house arrest while Muhammad Yasin Malik is in police custody. A complete shutdown was also observed in all districts of Kashmir Valley including Ganderbal, Budgam, Bandipora, Kupwara, Baramulla, Kulgam, Shopian, Anantnag and Pulwama.A complete shutdown was also observed in highway town of Banihal in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir to pay homage to slain Hizb commander Mannan Wani. 

All shops and other business establishments remained closed in Banihal town, and Gundadalkoot, Charil, Tethar and Nowgam markets located on Jammu-Srinagar highway.Reports said that hundreds of people on offered funeral prayers in absentia in south Kashmir’s Anantnag town and in central Kashmir’s Beerwah for the scholar rebel Manan Wani.Reports said that scores of people assembled after Friday prayers and offered funeral prayers for Wani and his associate killed in a gunfight in north Kashmir’s Handwara town on Saturday.The residents of Beerwah also offered funeral prayers in absentia for the Slain scholar Manan and his associate immediately after the congregational Friday prayers culminated in the town.Reports said that hundreds of people after Friday prayers at grand mosque assembled in the main town and offered absentia prayers to the slain Scholar and his associate.Clashes erupted in Jinab Sahab Soura after Friday congregational prayers where youth pelted stones on deployed Forces who retaliated with tear-smoke shells. The protesting youth raised slogans in favour of freedom and Manan Wani.Clashes erupted in parts of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, including Tekkipora - native village of slain Hizb ul Mujahideen commander Mannan Wani - after congregational Friday prayers.Reports said that youth took to streets in Sogam, Tekkipora, Kupwara main market and Regipora areas of the district to protest the killing of Wani and his aide in a gunfight yesterday.They said that the forces deployed in strength in the area fired tear gas to foil the protests.Clashes also erupted in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district after Friday congregational prayers. Youth pelted stones in Redwani area of the district on deployed forces who responded with tear-smoke shells.
