Unconventional story ideas backed by some renowned names of the film industry has taken regional cinema to new heights. But still few biggies of the industry consider Hindi films as the safe bet and refrain from investing in regional films. Unlike such circumspect filmmakers, Shahnaab Alam believes that cinema has its own language through its profound and expressive visuals, where the spoken language is just a marker of the story's roots.“My career path and its choices had me involved with Hindi language films. But now, when I wish to explore stories from other corners of our country, I have to be open about other regional language cinema,” he says.Shahnaab is co-producing an Assamese movie titled ‘Bhoga Khirikee’ along with Priyanka Chopra’s production company ‘Purple Pebble Pictures’. Speaking of the reason behind taking the less travelled road, Shahnaab says, “Firstly, to be a part of an Assamese film was a deliberate decision as  I originally hail from Assam. I would say, it’s a sort of homecoming and an attempt to explore my roots,” he mentions, adding, “Besides that, Jahnu Barua (director of this movie) has always been one of the master filmmakers with whom I desired to work. Very few are aware that Jahnu has been awarded the’ National Award for excellence in Cinema’ a staggering 12 times and his films have garnered 19 National awards till date.”When Alam decided to produce Jahnu’s next film, he was aware of the fact that that the ace director was making a film after a gap of five years. “Hence, it came to me as a responsibility to raise the bar of production quality for this master filmmaker,” states Alam.Alam, who has earlier given hit films like Lunchbox, is delighted to work with Barua. “Working with Jahnu Barua has been very satisfying and enriching. To watch this master craft his story has been an absolute pleasure. I must admit that I've come out of this film far more learned than ever,” he concludes.
