Locals from Redwani area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district Monday staged a massive protest in Kashmir capital Srinagar demanding immediate removal of newly established Army camp in the area.Scores of locals from Redwani area assembled here in Press Enclave Srinagar. They were carrying placards and banners seeking removal of the army camp.The protesters said that there are already four army camps in Kuglam with a radius of 6 kilometers. “We are unable to venture out from our houses during evening hours while army have even occupied graveyard and chopped down trees in and around the camp,” said protesters.They said everyday during evening hours soldiers enter into the village and ‘harass’ locals. “Clashes erupt everyday in the area. It was a peaceful area but ever since the camp has been established, the area has been witnessing violent clashes,” the said and threatened mass migration from the area in case the camp is not removed.The protesters claimed that district administration was not taken into loop in this regard. “The camp was established by army and SOG on its own without any permission from higher ups,” they said.Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in Redwani and its adjacent area against the installation of army camp. All the shops and business establishments remained shut while transport also remained off the roads. ‘Locals who are up in arms blocked roads at many points, said an eyewitness to news agency CNS.
