Underlining the need for respecting the difference of opinion on core issues, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today said that it was a step forward towards formation of a healthy society.Interacting with the students here at the local DAV college during a function to facilitate the national winners of the 14th National Youth Parliament here today, the Deputy Commissioner said that academic debates was all the more important for cementing democratic values amongst the students. He said that since the times immemorial way to expression has been an integral part of the human life. Mr. Sharma said that healthy debate was must and students must participate in such activities for holistic development of their personality.
The Deputy Commissioner further said that several path breaking initiatives like Right to Information, Women Empowerment, Women Adult Franchise and others were result of the debate by key personalities on these issues. He said that students must equip themselves with power of reasoning but should also learn the art of listening so that they could excel in life. Mr. Sharma also complimented the students for their rare feat of bagging this award thrice in this coveted competition where top institutes from across the country vie with each other.Earlier, the Chairman of the Local Committee of the College Justice (Retd.) NK Sood and Principal of the college Mr. SK Arora welcomed the Deputy Commissioner and apprised them about the glorious heritage of the college, which would be soon completing 100 years of service.On the occasion Dr. Dinesh Arora, Prof. Vipan Jhanji, Prof . Sharad Manocha, Prof. Midha and others were also present.
