One day workshop on solid liquid management held at Kishtwar

Deputy Commissioner  Angrez Singh Rana today  inaugurated one day work shop on Solid and Liquid Waste Management organised under Swacchta Hi Seva Campaign. The workshop was attended by DPO, District Health Officer, District Horticulture Officer,Prof. Vikram from GDC Kishtwar, EO Municipality, BDO Kishtwar, BDO Padder, Block Coordinator Umeed besides other officers/ officials, volunteers of Umeed group andstudents from Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School . The DC stressed on the proper disposal of waste material and asked the participants to desist from indiscriminate usage of such material which cause permanent effects on rural ecology and contaminate the land and water bodies. He laid strong thrust on segregating the waste materials in three categories viz. Biodegradable waste, Non- Biodegradable waste and hazardous waste.He directed EO Municipality to give wide publicity to the idea of safe disposal of waste products by drum beating, speaker mounted vehicles etc. wherein every citizen be advised not to throw the domestic waste openly on roads, public places etc.  

He said after that anyone found involved in littering, making public places, roads filthy shall I  be fined with Rs 50 which  will be further enhanced in case of repeated offence.Sharing his experience during a training programme held at Sikkim Gangkot on Swachtta, the DDC stated that one gets impressed to see the thoroughly clean roads, public places, parks, schools etc in that   city . He informed that one who is found guilty of creating acts of public nuisance such as littering , spitting etc. are fined Rs 5000/- instantly by the municipal / Panchayat authorities. DDC emphasized on proper disposal of sewage and asked the participants to dig small pits or use small fruit boxes for composting / vermi composting of waste material, manure of which could be utilised for organic farming.At the outset, Dr. V.R Pandita informed   the participants about the ill effects of polythene and non- degradable solid wastes.Prof. Vikram from GDC Kishtwar the guest faculty threw light on the segregation of the waste material and stated that if wastes are segregated properly from the source point, nearly 80% problems of the waste management could be mitigated.
