The Regional Fish Farmers Development Agency Jammu,(Ghoumanhasan) conducted three days Skill Development Training Programme on "Fresh Water Carp Culture" w.e.f 18"' to 20"' of September 2018 with assistance from the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB),Hyderabad. The programme was organized under the Supervision of Kulbhushan Verma Chief Project officer Fisheries RFFDA Jammu which were attended by the 50 No's of Fish Farmers from various Districts of Jammu Division During the training programme, the Fish Farmers were provided hands on importance of Fresh water Carp Culture (Composite Fish Culture), Identification of IMC & Exotic Carps Fish and its seed etc. The trainees were also acquainted Fish Pond Preparation (Eradication & control of Aquatic Weeds, predatory insects & unwanted fishes, Methods of stocking, pre-stocking management, post stocking management. Fish feed and nutrition, Integrated fish farming. Besides special lecture on Fish health Management, Common disease in Fish seed and its control,Hygienic handling of Fish, Fish harvesting, Marketing, the Fish Farmers were also made aware about the various developmental schemes launched by the Central and State Govt for the welfare of the Fishers.
Besides lectures, the practical session were also conducted which comprised of water quality management. Calculation of dose and method of fertilizer application, Fish Feed formation and method of application and demonstration on Fish Seed Packing and Transportation On the second day of the programme, a field tour programme was organized to ponds of the Progressive Private Fish Farmers of Bishnah, Vijaypur ,R S Pura areas of the District Jammu, Samba, wherein the Trainee Farmers were face to face introduced with the Progressive Farmers and know various aspects involved in the culture of Fish from Stocking to Harvesting with practical Demonstration The Farmers were also visited Aquarium Project at Bagh-e-Bahu, were they were made well familiar about the various verities and culture of the Ornamental Fishes and its management The valedictory function was presided over by the Joint Director Fisheries Territorial S.S Sharma along with Joint Director Projects, Irshad Ahmed Shah. The capacity building of the trainees shall hone their skill towards the scientific method of fish farming thus enhancing the fish production from their pond. Besides, the skilled Farmers shall help to disseminate the importance and benefits of Hatchery Management to the fellow farmers bringing more area under aquaculture. During the programme both officers deliberated upon the various developmental schemes being executed by the Department for the welfare of Fish Farmers They also impressed upon the Farmers to adopt latest technology coupled with management skill to further augment their fish production viz a vis increased income from Fish Farming. During the programme, various queries were raised by the Fish Farmers which were given patient hearing by the both officers of Fisheries Later the both officers of Fisheries distributed the certificates among the trainee Fish Farmers The Valedictory function was also attended by the senior officials of the department.
