Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) concluded four day long vocational training programme on “Entrepreneurship development in organic vegetables growing” here today at village Talwara (Zero More).The training programme was conducted under the guidance and supervision of Associate Director Extension (ADE) and I/C KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr. R.K. Arora. Large number of tribal rural youths/farmers/farm women of the village enthuatically participated in the programme and various technical sessions were organised on scientific organic vegetables growing in the hilly areas.Dr. Banarsi Lal, Incharge, KVK, Reasi initiated programme by welcoming the trainees. He gave a detailed view on entrepreneurship development in vegetables growing and said the farmers that the hilly areas have immense potential in organic vegetables growing. He guided the farmers for the scientific commercial vegetables growing and narrated that by growing organic vegetables in a scientific way they are able to generate more income and employment.He elaborated the scientific guidelines for winter’s vegetables growing specially the roots and cole crops. He stressed on the quality seed and scientific cultural operations for the commercial vegetables growing. He educated the trainees on the advantages of protected cultivation to produce the vegetables of high quality and yields even in the off-season when the prices are high in the market. 

He emphasised on use of vermicompost, biofertilizers and organic fungicides and organic pesticides in vegetables. He demonstrated the nursery raising techniques in vegetables. He also educated the farmers on proper spacing and requirement of irrigation in the vegetables.  He gave a detail view of organic methods for the disease and insect-pests management in the vegetables. He also guided the trainees on micro-irrigation and soil and water testing in the vegetable’s fields. He educated the farmers on Farmers Producers Organizations (FPOs) to market their organic vegetables. The scientist also suggested the farmers that they should use only the well decomposed manures in their vegetables fields so that they can get the healthy crop and keep their soil healthy. The scientist spoke on value addition in vegetables and suggested the farmers they can earn more money by the value addition of vegetables. In this programme extension literature on scientific vegetables cultivation was also distributed among the farmers. High quality seeds on winter vegetables were also provided to the farmers.  In this training programme many quarries were raised by the farmers which KVK scientist answered in a very satisfactorily way. The programme was assisted Manhor Lal and concluded by Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi with the vote of thanks.
