District Disaster Management Authority reviewed the preparedness for disaster management, flood protection, capacity building and also finalized / approved the rehabilitation plan for families affected due to construction of flood spill channel.Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Chairman DDMA (Deputy Commissioner) chaired the review meeting which was attended by ADDC Mohammad Qasim, SSP Sheikh Zulfkar, Jt Director Planning Abdul Majid Karnai, AC Revenue, AC Development, Executive Engineers of PHE, PWD, PDD, Flood Control; CMO and district officers of line departments.The preparedness for floods, long-term protections measures, preparedness for emergency response in avalanche prone areas, evacuation, assured medical services, disaster response, status of control rooms and community involvement were discussed in the meeting.The DDMA approved the provision of 12 operators to be provided to the Mechanical Engineering Department, along with machinery support for snow clearing operations in avalanche prone areas. Maintenance of roads during floods and heavy snowfall was discussed threadbare and field functionaries were directed to be in a state of readiness always. A joint control room has been established for a coordinated response in case of disaster and emergencies.Meanwhile, the DDMA approved the rehabilitation of families for expeditious execution of Flood Spill Channel work at Naidkhai. The DDC directed for handing over possession of 10 Marla plots to 17 affected families at Naidkhai by 8th September 2018 and development of amenities like power and water supply thereafter for shifting of families. It was also decided that 17 pre-fab huts will be requisitioned for temporary accommodation of these families. Land measuring 113 Kanal on the right bank and 88 Kanal on left bank has been provided to Flood Control department.A committee headed by Additional DDC has been constituted to oversee the rehabilitation of displaced families, development of amenities and time-bound completion of flood spill channel work. Flood control department was directed to complete land development process within one month.
