CEO met representatives of political parties on special summary revision of draft electoral rolls

Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab Dr. S. Karuna Raju today met with representative of different political parties regarding special summary revision of draft Photo Electoral Rolls. In this meeting representatives of Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal, Bahujan Samaj Party, Communist Party of India and Nationalist Congress Party were present.Addressing the meeting Dr. Raju emphasized that during this campaign the main focus is on removal of repeat/multiple entries/ demographically similar entries from electoral rolls. Removal of permanently shifted electors and deceased electors would also be focused.

CEO said that during this campaign name of eminent personalities from the field of art, culture, journalism, sports, judiciary, public services and Person with Disabilities will be highlighted in Electoral Rolls. He said that Office of Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab and District Electoral Officers will also initiate an awareness campaign regarding this.Dr. Raju further said that preparation of EPICs for newly registered young voters will be completed by January 20, 2019 and handed over to BLO/ERO/DEO by January 22, 2019 for ceremonial distribution on January 25, 2019, the National Voters Day.CEO said that presently there are total 20112383 voters in the state, out of which 10623802 are male voters, 9488127 are female electors and 454 are from Third Gender. Apart from this 330 NRIs have been enrolled as voters in Electoral Rolls. There are total 23213 polling stations in the state, out of which 6819 are urban and 16394 are in rural areas.CEO has appealed to the leaders of the political parties that they will ask their district units to join the election meetings at District Levels.
