With the pledge of making Jalandhar a drug free and healthy city, thousands of city residents today joined the district administration in its unique initiative of ‘Jalandhar Runs Against Drugs’ organized under the Drug Abuse Prevention Officer (DAPO) scheme and the ‘Tandarust Punjab Mission’.Led by the Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commissioner of Police Praveen Kumar Sinha thousands of city residents today ran for about five kilometers during the run that initiated from the local Guru Gobind Sigh Stadium and passed through Chun Mun Chowk, APJ School, BMC Chowk, Namdev Chowk, Skylark Chowk, Guru Nanak Mission Chowk before culminating back at the stadium. The ICICI Bank and Lovely Professional University besides the Sports department extended their fulsome support and cooperation for making this event a huge success.Addressing the gathering comprising of all walks of people before flagging off the rally, the Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police urged them be ambassadors for spreading the message against drug abuse in the district. They said that now the time has come when all of us must join hands to ensure that the curse was wiped out from the district efficaciously.
Both Mr. Sharma and Mr. Sinha said that the basic motive of organizing this run was to galvanize the people for this noble cause and ensure that the message of anti-drug crusade was spread in every nook and corner of the district.They expressed hope that as the brave, hard working and resilient people of the district had extended help to the administration for eliminating terrorism from the state, in the same manner the scourge of drugs would also be routed out with their active support and cooperation.
