Under the Mission Tandrust Punjab being carried out under the supervision of Civil Surgeon Dr Parvinder Pal Singh Sidhu, Cochlear implant has been done on a one-year-old baby, who was born as deaf. The implant was done by a team of doctors at PGIMER Chandigarh. This is the first case of Ludhiana district that has been carried out successfully.Dr Sidhu informed that through the Health Department, RBSK Mobile Health Teams carry out checks of students studying in government and government aided schools and Aanganwari centres on regular basis. He said that the treatment of needy students is done free of cost through the National Child Health Programme.During a checkup by Mobile Health Team, Payal, it was found that one year old Kunwardeep Singh, son of Mr Harjinder Singh, a resident of Doraha was deaf and mute since birth. He was referred to DEIC Civil Hospital, Ludhiana, and after the ENT experts carried his thorough checkup, he was referred to PGIMER Chandigarh for Cochlear Implant. The doctors at PGIMER carried out the implant free of cost under RBSK, whose otherwise cost of Rs 6 lakh. Dr Sidhu said that upon the implant, the child is responding well.Child’s father Mr Harjinder Singh thanked Civil Surgeon Dr Parvinder Pal Singh Sidhu and his team and appealed to the residents to avail of all facilities and government schemes being run by the government. Those present on the occasion included District Nodal Officer Dr Jasbir Singh, Dr Manisha Khanna ENT Specialist and Dr Arundeep Kaur DEIC Incharge.
