Hundreds of teachers of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) under the banner of  employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) took to streets on Tuesday demanding implementation of 7th Pay Commission and de-linking of their salary from Ministry of Human Resource and Development. The police used coloured water cannons to disperse the protesters. Several protesters were also detained by the police. The protesters said that the government was targeting only SSA teachers and was negligent towards them.  Earlier this month, the JAC has said that debarring SSA teachers, head teachers and RMSA masters from 7th pay commission was a gross injustice and unacceptable to teaching fraternity. As the protesting teachers began to march on residency road in protest, police deployed at the spot swung into action and dispersed the protesting teachers by using colored water canon on them.Reports said that dozens of protesting teachers including union leaders were bundled in police vehicle and lodged at Kothi Bagh Police station.Worth to mention that SSA is implemented as a flagship programme of Government of India for universalising elementary education. The programme was launched in Jammu and Kashmir in the year 2002-03.According to the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission, the Centre has revised pension of retired faculty and other non-teaching staff in Central Universities and Colleges.
