Forest Department Gears Up For Massive Plantation Drive In The District Under ‘Tandarust Punjab Mission’

More Than Three Lakh Saplings To Be The Planted In Jalandhar From This Month- Kundra

In a bid to enhance green cover in the district and provide ‘green lungs’ to the residents through aforestation, the Forest department would soon start a special drive for planting more than three lakh saplings across the district under the ‘Tandarust Punjab Mission’. Divulging the details Divisional Forest Officer Mr. Vikram Singh Kundra said that the department was fully geared up for starting this ambitious drive to ensure that green cover was increased in the district. He said that under the drive around 1.69 lakh saplings would be given directly to the residents, free of cost, for plantation. Likewise, Mr. Kundra said that around 1.50 lakh saplings would be planted in the government offices/ buildings besides other vacant land.Divisional Forest Officer said that the sole aim of the drive is to ensure maximum green cover in the district through the planting of trees. Mr. Kundra said that besides enhancing green cover in the district the drive would also help in making district clean, green and pollution free. He said that during the drive special focus would be laid on planting site specific plants, so that they could grow well in the conducive environment.Meanwhile, Forest Range Officer Mr. Davinder Singh said that apart from traditional plants like Neem, Drek, Mango, Jamun, Kachnar and others, priority was also being accorded to plantation of medicinal plants like Arjun, Harad, Bahera and others. He said that apart from ensuring good environment these plants were also very important for the human health. Soliciting the support of people in this noble cause, the Divisional Forest Officer called upon them plant and upkeep atleast sapling for the sake of their coming generations. He said that people could also order a sapling for them free of cost through ‘i-hariyali’ app by downloading it from Google play store on android phone.
