In order to further tighten noose around the menace of drugs, the Commissioner of Police Jalandhar Praveen Kumar Sinha has appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Mr. Gurmeet Singh as the nodal officer of the ‘Drug Free Helpline’, where people could share any sort of information related to drugs.Divulging the details the Commissioner of Police Jalandhar, Mr. Praveen Kumar Sinha said that the helpline started by the district Police last year had got positive response from the people. He said that earlier the ‘Drug Free Helpline’ was started to facilitate the drug addicts and their family members to get for detoxification and de-addiction of the addicts. However, Mr. Sinha said that now the ambit of the helpline has been widened and any person who has any information regarding drug supply network or other could share it on this helpline for quick action by Police.
The Commissioner of Police further said that the Deputy Commissioner of Police would handle the number himself and sort out the complaints coming on it. He said that identity of any person giving information on drugs would not be revealed to anybody. Mr. Sinha said that Helpline number 9592918005 would be operational round the clock in the service of people.Soliciting fulsome support and cooperation from people in this regard, the Commissioner of Police said that the prime motive of this helpline was to carve out a drug free and healthy Jalandhar. He categorically said that as per the commitment of the state government to make Punjab a drug free state, the Jalandhar Police Commissionerate would ensure that this target was achieved soon, with the active support and cooperation of the general public. However, Mr. Sinha further said that the helpline would continue to serve drug addicts and their families to overcome this menace with the help of Police.
