State Vigilance Bureau, during its ongoing campaign against corruption, has been able to nab 19 officers of different departments red handed while accepting bribes during the month of June, which included 9 police personnel, 3 of revenue department and 7 of other departments. All the apprehended officers/officials were booked under different provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.Disclosing this an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said during the last month the special courts while deciding cases filed and contested by Vigilance Bureau had pronounced sentences from 3 to 10 years to the five accused in different cases.He further added that during the month of June the special courts have convicted five government officers/officials in different bribery cases, in which Manjit Singh Peon posted at civil hospital Jalandhar has been convicted of 4 years imprisonment with fine of Rs. 5,000 by special court Jalandhar.Likewise Harpreet Singh, a private person, has been convicted of 3 years imprisonment with fine of Rs. 5,000 by special court Ludhiana, Ashwani Kumar, Najar in Punjab Roadways Ludhiana, has been convicted of 4 years imprisonment with fine of Rs. 15000 by special court Ludhiana, whereas Jodha Singh and Balad Singh of Muktsar district were convicted of 10 years imprisonment with fine of Rs. 1,00,000 each by special court Mohali.The spokesman said during the period Bureau has submitted 9 challans in the courts and 6 criminal cases have also been registered. In addition to this, 10 vigilance enquiries have also been registered to probe the allegations against the public servants thoroughly.
