District Development Commissioner (DDC) Bandipora Khursheed Ahmad Sanai today convened a meeting of concerned officers to discuss the issues relating to extraction of river bed material (sand/bajri) from Madhumati Nallah Bandipora.The meeting discussed threadbare various remedial measures to safeguard the aquatic life besides protection bunds of the Nallah.It was decided in the meeting that no person whether living near Nallah or any outsider shall be allowed for any kind of extraction from the Nallah, owing to blanket ban on the extraction.The meeting passed several directions for illegal extraction and it was decided that stern action under rules will be initiated against those individuals and tractor owner, who found involved in illegal extraction of river bed material from the Nallah.The meeting also discussed the welfare measures for the persons who were earning their livelihood by way of extraction of river bed material from Nallah.Among others, Assistant Director Fisheries, Ex. Engineer PHE&FC and concerned officers from Geology and mining besides representatives of tractor owners were also present in the meeting.
