Mission Tandrust Punjab - Health Department Releases Gambusia Fish In All 1245 Ponds In Ludhiana

In order to check the spread of vector-borne diseases in Ludhiana, the health department has covered all 1245 ponds in which Gambusia fish has been released under Tandrust Punjab Mission.District Epidemiologist Dr. Ramesh Kumar said that Gambusia fish eats the mosquito larvae and helps in controlling the diseases Malaria and dengue. He said that the department has also installed boards outside the ponds to inform the people about releasing of Gambusia fish in the ponds. Further, the villagers have been asked to not to put ‘black oil’ in the pond.He added that department has been taking every possible step to check the spread of the vector-borne diseases and claimed dengue and malaria could be easily prevented by taking precautions including not to let the water accumulate in their areas and clear out immediately, water in desert coolers or other containers should be changed daily as these become breeding grounds for mosquitoes.He said that the members of anti-larva teams also spraying on the stagnant water wherever they found as these sites are potential breeding sites for mosquitoes.
