Volunteers are ready to serve in the event of any eventuality, said the Deputy Commissioner while briefing the Divisional Commissioner about the measures taken for making ready the Emergency Operation Centres (EOC) at a meeting held at Joint Control Room under the chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Mr. Baseer Ahmad Khan at Harinivas Srinagar this evening. He said apart from this the people associated with Masjid, Gurduwara and Mandir Committees, who met him today, also assured to play their role under any emergent circumstances possibly arisen due to inclement weather condition and incessant rains.The meeting was informed that FS&CA department has stocked 1815 quintal of rice, with 438 LPG cylinders at these centres besides keeping 500 tents, over 8000 blankets and 174 boats available at these centres, the meeting was told.It was given out that, the Power Development Department has installed 35 generators for proper electrification at these centres while Srinagar Municipal Corporation has deployed 30 dewatering pumps and nine mobile toilets for meeting the requirements.As a part of the decision taken yesterday, the LAWDA has set up five more relief centres around Dal Lake where essential commodities and requisite material is being dispatched for making these centres ready.

The meeting was also informed that five more medical camps have been established by the Health Department at various relief centres in the city raising the total number to 17.The Irrigation and Flood Control Department has used 2.64 lakh bags and kept 98 thousand bags ready, filled with sand, for use, including 2200 Geo Bags while R&B department has constructed 16 dry toilets at 16 relief centres, the meeting was told.The Divisional Commissioner directed the Chief Engineer I&FC to strengthen the embankments of Jhelum River from Verinag to Sangam including the nallahs where it has become necessary. He asked him to keep ready the sand bags within one kilometer of radius of Srinagar city.The Divisional Commissioner directed all concerned officers to work with zeal and synergy so that disaster management mechanism is strengthened in the valley. In view of possible flood situation, the divisional administration has set up 36 flood relief centres with other basic facilities. These relief centres are located at Gogoo land Humhama, Rawalpora, Sanantnagar, Khumaeni Chowk, Parraypora, Hazratbal, Rambagh, Rakh-e-Arth, Nishat, Safa Kadal, Goripora, Sonwar, Zewan and Zainakote.Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Syed Abid Rashid Shah, Director MET, Sonam Lotus, VC LAWDA, Director Tourism, Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control, Chief Engineer Public Health Engineering, Commissioner SMC, Joint Director Information, Kashmir, Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Director FCS&CA, Superintending Engineers of R&B & PDD, and senior officers from Health, Revenue, Red Cross, Police and CRPF were present in the meeting.
