Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Farooq Ahmad Baba today conducted an extensive tour of the flood-prone areas of the district to take stock of the situation arisen by recent rains.The ADC was accompanied by Tehsildar Pattan, Singhpora, Executive Engineer Flood Control, Engineers and other district officers.The team visited Gund Qasim, Trekulbal and other low-lying villages located along Jhelum embankments to examine the situation and to get the first-hand appraisal of the same.While inspecting flood-prone areas, the ADC directed Irrigation and Flood Control authorities to expedite the strengthening work on embankments in these areas so that the situation remains under control. He stressed concerned departments to remain vigilant in case of any eventually.ADC appealed the people not to panic as the district administration has geared up all the agencies for the safeguard of precious human lives and property.He further said that men and machinery viz dozers, sandbags, boats, divers, swimmers, vehicles, dewatering pumps besides telephone numbers of in-charge officers are in the state of readiness. He also called for close coordination between the departments to ensure timely rescue and rehabilitation as and when needed.Meanwhile, ADC met several deputations during his visit wherein they demanded appropriate measures that needed to be done so as to avert any kind of eventuality. He assured the deputations that their genuine demands will be redressed on priority.
