Union Information & Broadcasting Minister (IC) Sh. Manish Tewari has said that UPA Govt. is committed for the strengthening of infrastructure of Rural Sports in the country. Addressing a large gathering at Kila Raipur on the second day of Kila Raipur Sports Festival in the District Ludhiana today Sh. Tewari said that the former Sports & Youth Affairs Ministers Sh. Sunil Dutt & Sh. Mani Shankar Ayyar had witnessed the Kila Raipur sports, which are considered as the Rural Olympics and had a done everything possible to adopt the model of Kila Raipur Sports in the rest of the country.The Minister congratulated Grewal Sports Association for holding such a grand rural sports event, which is viewed and applauded world-wide. Sh. Tewari promised the oragnisers that the scope and infrastructure of Kila Raipur Sports will be further widened and strengthened. Sh. Manish Tewari handed over a cheque of Rs. 10 lac to the office bearers of Grewal Sports Association for the upgradation of Stadium and construction of new rooms and also laid the foundation stone for the same. The Minister also gave away prizes to the winners of the various events.Earlier, talking to Media Persons, after having been accorded warm welcome on reaching Kila Raipur, Sh. Manish Tewari said that the ban on film tittled Vishawroopam by Tamil Nadu Govt. was no appropriate. He said that once any movie is cleared by the Censer Board duly constituted by the Central Govt. no other agency can ban the movie suo-motto. The Minister said keeping the view the sensitivity and interests of film makers and producers, I&B Ministry has decided to setup a Committee to review the provisions of the existing Cinematography Act. Sh. Tewari said that composition of the Committee and its terms of reference would be declared soon.
On this occasion, former Punjab Ministers Malkit Singh Dakha, Isher Singh Mehrban, former MLA Sh. Jasbir Singh Jassi Khangura, District Congress President (Urban) Sh. Gursandeep Singh Grewal, Secretary Balwinder Singh & several prominent sports personalities were present.Kila Raipur sports festival is popularly known as Rural Olympics oragnised by Grewal Sports Association. This three day sports festival attracts more than 4,000 sports men and women both in recognized and traditional sports. It is witnessed by more than 10 lac people. Of late, Kila Raipur sports festival has become a truly international rural sports event. Kila Raipur has perhaps the biggest rural sports stadiums in the country with a capacity of 50 thousand spectators. Many foreign TV Channels, besides DD Punjabi & DD Sports shoot this sports bonanza. Kila Raipur, a little village beyond Ludhiana, has been holding the Rural Olympics for last 55 years.
