Famous models of national repute took the stage by storm this evening to showcase the 52 hands-on beautiful collections created by the graduating fashion design students of Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology (NIIFT) Mohali. The occasion was ‘Anukama 2018’, the annual design collection show of the Institute. On this occasion Chief Guest Mr. Sunder Sham Arora, Hon'bleMinister of Industries and Commerce, Punjab said that Government would setup colleges for Fashion And Technology and steps would be taken to move up the NIIFT to the top position in the country. "NIIFT has done Punjab proud. The students who pass out from here act as brand ambassadors for Punjab when they make a mark in their chosen jobs or by creating start ups not just in Punjab, but other parts of the country." Said Mr. Sunder Sham Arora, Hon'ble Minister of Industries & Commerce, Punjab. He said that the placement of the NIFT institution has always been 100% and its students have always been given preference in fashion world because the courses of this Institution has been designed according to the demand of Industry. He further said that the state government is trying to promote all industries and this aspect is the cornerstone of the new industrial policy of the state government. Divulging more, he said that 03 new food parks have been set up in the state with M.O.Us worth Rs. 60,000 crore Signed and nearly 1.5 lakh jobs given by the government so far.  Mr. Arora also said that due to the industry friendly policy of the government, the power tariff has been reduced so that the industrial sector can work upto it's full potential. He further said, “The mission of NIIFT is to educate and mentor students interested in a career in fashion by imparting skill based training which is in tune with Industry requirements. This  is where NIIFT plays a vital role in shaping the students' into talented designers.”

Mr. Sundar Sham Arora, also gave away awards to the promising students. A total of 16 awards were given to the deserving students on the basis of their performance. The awards are as followed.The  Best Design Collectionaward went to Priyang.Best Garment Constructionwas bagged by Anjali.   Best Commercial Collection was shared by  Alisha And Kanika Chugh.The  Most Creative Collection went to Simranjit Kaur.Best Concept was earned by Rajeshewari and Sneha.  Most Innovative Pattern making was shared by Jaswiner and Kirti.Best Surface Ornamentation was shared by  Dollsy and Trisha.    Best use of Craft in  Design was shared by  Komal Bhatia and Shailey.Best use of Art in  Design was shared by Arpita and Priyanjali while the  Best Design Vision (a jury special award) went to Mehakpreet. Certificates of merit were given to Nikita Ghawri, Sakshi, Sejal, Guneet, Lehar, Manya, Nancy, shruti, Parul & Khanak.These students were guided by their Mentors- Dr. PoonamAggarwal, Dr. Simrita Singh, Ms. Deepti Sharma,Mr. Gobiend Rai and Ms Navdeep Kaur.An eminent jury made up of Fashion, Apparel and Textile Experts evaluated the designed collections.Mr. D P S Kharbanda, IAS, DG, NIIFT said, “Students used the platform of Anukama 18 to present their signature style. They  put in their best of work which could be seen in the collections presented.”Said Mr K S Brar, Director, NIIFT, "Each student presented five ensembles. These comprised of  collections of garments based on pertinent themes. Women empowerment, violence against women, eclectic period ensembles, the creativity overflowed.  

Made by the students of  6th semester of fashion design over a period of 6 months under the mentorship of the design faculty, the collections varied from ethnic to modern to traditional to based on craft and art.”The collections presented were breathtaking. The highlight of Anukama 18 came when  a collection named 'Zari Misl' inspired by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab Capt Amarinder Singh's book on The Battle of Saragarhi -- 'The 36th Sikhs in the Tirah Campaign 1897-98' was presented by the designer Simranjit Kaur. Sneha  created a collection named 'In the Name of Love' a tale of acid attack survivors. In fact an acid attack victim Ritu Sainialso walked teh ramp in an attire from Sneha's collection. Rajeshwari  created a collection to bring upfront the violence against women & child sexual assault, this she achieved by  applying social messages on garments. Guneet's 'Pastel Rush' inspired from filigree, an ornamental art work done with silver and golden wires was also presented. Dollsy showcased her collection 'Gulzar' created using the quilling technique & with motifs taken form Mughal monuments specially the Taj Mahal. 'Tree of Life' by Nitika Ghavri , 'Adishakti' by Maya, Alisha Gulati's'Zeenat Begum' which was a Mughal Collection, DesiSwag a collection that gave a modern twist to the ancient women's upper garment -'Kanchuki' were also showcased among other collections.We feel proud that 15 of our students walked the ramp alongside professional fashion week models. In fact NIIFT student Khushboo Rawat who was adjudged Miss India Khadi 2017 was the show stopper.30 female and male models walked the ramp adding the glam quotient to the students’ creations." 

Said Dr Simrita Singh, Coordinatir, Anukama 2018 & HOD, Fashion design department.National repute Fashion Week and Runway Models added glitz to the superlative collections. Some prominent fashion week & runway female models were Vidya, Megha, Vinni, Kanan, Ashley, Himani, Neha Sahni, Isha, Pallak, Rachita, Aditi, Anchal, Sakshi, Pallavi, PreetiChodhary,Divya, Kanchan -- who was Miss Dehradun top 12 finalist, Miss Adventurous top 6 Finalist & Miss Uttrakhand Finalist and Hema Chetri who was Indian Princess International 2013 representing Bhutan, among others. Male models like Raghav, Anuj, Jagsher, Alam and Sid- all Fashion Week and runway models also showcased the collections.It is noteworthy that NIIFT is an accredited, diverse, and expanding college of Fashion, Management and Technology established in 1995 and has grown to be one of India's premiere institutes. NIIFT provides B.Sc and M.Sc Degrees. NIIFT is under the administrative control of the Department of Industries and Commerce, Punjab.Admissions to the Degree Programs is based on clearing the entrance test which is scheduled for 3/6/2018. This year the last date of submission of applications is 29/05/2018. The entrance test is followed by the situation test/ interviews and counseling respectively.
