Punjab Government would soon introduce the new sports policy in the state with an aim to catch the budding players from the school level besides providing special status and financial assistance to the national and international level players of the state.Talking to media persons here on his maiden visit to the ferozepur after assuming the office as Sports and youth services minister, Mr. Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi said that in the absence of any concrete road map during the last 10 years the state of the Punjab has lost its glory in the field of sports.He said that immediately after assuming the office he has ordered the department officials to chalk out a comprehensive plan for the new sports policy with the help of eminent sports persons, youth clubs, sports associations etc. He also said that new policy would be focused on generating sports cultural at the bottom level especially at the school level by allotting a sports period in all level of classes.The Minister has also informed that a new sports university would be set up in Patiala as the Punjab Government has already gives in principal approval to the project. "For this ambitious project the state has managed to reserve 250 acre of land in Patiala "he added.
Advocating special status for the national and international level players of the state, the Minister said that the Punjab Government would ensure the full cooperation by providing training on foreign soils to the players, fixed regular financial assistant and jobs for the medal winners at various international sports events like Olympic, Asian games and commonwealth games etc.Stressing to strengthen the village level youth and sports clubs, the Minister said that presently most of the registered youth and sports clubs are inactive but in future their services would be used to aware the people against the social evils under the new sports policy. He also said that the Punjab Government would provide financial assistance to these clubs on annual basis.The Minister has also announced that the Government would promote the circle style kabbadi as it's included in the international sports events across the globe.Prominent amongst present on the occasion included MLA Smt.
