Sunil Sharma for upgradation of public transport system in JK

Government is taking one step after another for expansion and up gradation of public transport system with emphasis on streamlining the transport facilities in rural, far-off and hilly areas of the state, stated Minister of State for Transport, Sunil Kumar Sharma, today while chairing 78th Board of Directors meeting of J&K SRTC held to review its overall functioning.The meeting discussed various issues faced by the Corporation and steps needed to be taken to upgrade the public transport services across the state. Besides, hiring of luxury buses through PPP mode, recruitment of post in various categories on contract basis, commercial exploitation of JKSRTC Business Community Centre were the key issues of the meeting.

Other issues like confirmation of Minutes of meeting of 76th Meeting, decisions taken in 76th meeting and action taken on that decisions, performance of JKSRTC in 2016-17, purchase of news buses and trucks, outstanding with various government departments for services rendered by JKSRTC was also discussed in the meeting. It was informed that the revenue generated by JKSRTC in 2017-18 is approximately Rs 77. 99 crore.

While speaking on the occasion, the Minister stressed on the need to adopt innovative ideas for improving and streamlining functioning of the Corporation. He said the Corporation in addition of providing better and efficient transport facilities to the public should also bring efficiency and transparency in its working. He also said the Corporation has to work hard and find ways to improve revenue generating capacity.
