With an objective to sensitize the common masses of Udhampur district and providing electricity connections to un-electrified households in the district, District Development Commissioner (DDC), Udhampur, Ravinder Kumar today launched “Gram Swaraj Abhiyan” here at DC Office Complex Udhampur.Speaking on the occasion, DDC said that under Gram Swaraj Abhiyan which is start on April 14, to commemorate the birth Anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, a special outreach programme had been prepared to reach out the rural people to aware them of the various social security schemes. He said that the objective of the Abhiyan is to promote social harmony among the villagers, and connect to poor rural households. The Deputy Commissioner exhorted upon the common masses to come forward and avail benefits of these schemes.As part of the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan, free electricity connections would be provided to the poor households. In this regard, 19 villages of Udhampur district have been identified by providing free electricity connections to leftover households and distributing LED lamps at subsidized rates through Rural Electrification Corporation (REC), with coordination of Power Development Department and representative of Energy Efficiency Services limited (EESL).During the Abhiyan, the District administration Udhampur has chalked out a strategy and organized series of events in the district including awareness camps, seminars, rallies and meetings etc to be held across the district as a part of the nationwide campaign from April 14 to May 5 to make the rural people aware of various beneficiary oriented social schemes. Among others, Chief Planning Officer, Ashok Khajuria, Xen PDD, Rishpaul Chand, AEE PDD, Udhampur besides other district Officers of concerned departments were present on the occasion.
