While presiding over 150 years celebrations of Municipal Council, Nahan followed by a largely attended public meeting at historic Nahan Chowgan in Sirmour district today, Chief Minister Shri Jai Ram Thakur congratulated the people of Nahan town for being part of this historic moment. He said that Nahan town not only was historic and culturally rich but also had huge tourism potential.He said that the State Government during its present tenure of only over 100 days had taken several initiatives for making Himachal Pradesh a model State of the country. The State Government was giving special thrust on development of those areas which had remained ignored in matter of development. The current year budget was people centric and pro-poor. He said that State Government was working with aim and objective of all-round development of the State.The Chief Minister said that in the very first cabinet meeting the government lowered the age limit of old age pension without income limit from 80 years to 70 years, thereby benefitting 1.30 lakh people. He said that the State Government would not work with vengeance but at the same time would not tolerate corruption at any level.

Shri Jai Ram Thakur said that all the light vehicles with Himachal Pradesh numbers would be exempted from payment of toll tax in the State. He said that 15 percent from the income of temples would be used for maintenance and setting up of ‘Gau Sadans’ in the State. In addition Rs 1 per bottle of liquor would also be charged for ‘Gau Sadans’.Earlier, the Chief Minister laid foundation stone of entry gate of Himachal Pradesh at Kala Amb to be constructed at a cost of Rs 30 lakh.He laid foundation stones of Municipal Council office building at Nahan to be constructed at cost of Rs. 6.44 crore and City Livelihood Centre Building to be constructed at a cost of Rs 4.17 crore. He also inaugurated Press Club Building at Nahan constructed at a cost of Rs 26.18 lakh and Fire Office Building at Nahan constructed at a cost of Rs. 4.24 crore.Shri Jai Ram Thakur announced PHC for Kollar and Surla, upgradation of veterinary dispensary at Gram Panchayat Brahmpapri to veterinary hospital, upgradation of middle school Malkuwala to high school and government primary school Badavan and Devika to middle schools.He announced Rs. 4 lakh each for Government Primary School Kailash, Senior Secondary School Kala Amb, High School Bohalian, Primary School Kolar, High School Patganni and Senior Secondary School Bikram Bag and Nahan. 

He announced to provide Rs. 10 lakh each for Senior Secondary School Majra and Shamsher and two new trades in Nahan Polytechnic.The Chief Minister announced rupees one crore for Nagar Parishad Nahan for various works, Rs. 5 crore for Nahan sewerage plant and starting of Science classes at Senior Secondary School Brahmpapri.He said water supply scheme for Nahan town from Giri river would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 72 crore.Documentary produced by the Tourism department was also released and shown on the occasion. The Chief Minister released book ‘Splendid Sirmour’ brought out by the State Tourism Department and also launched web portal ‘My Sirmour’ and web portal Dr Rajiv Bindal.The Chief Minister was presented a cheque of Rs 51000 towards the Chief Ministers Relief Fund by the NGO Employees Association of the district.He also visited various exhibitions stalls put up by various departments on the occasion.The Chief Minister was honoured by Speaker, HP Vidhan Sabha and local MLA Dr Rajiv Bindal and Chairperson and other members of Nahan Nagar Parishad besides various political, social and employees organizations and associations.

Dr Rajiv Bindal while welcoming the Chief Minister said that the buildings of Dr Y.S Parmar Medical College Nahan should be constructed at the earliest. He said that the Union Government had provided Rs 190 crore for this 500 bedded Medical College. He said that IIM has been established in Sirmour district. He also listed various demands of the area before the Chief Minister on the occasion.Urban Development Minister Smt. Sarveen Chaudhary said that the State was scaling new heights under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Shri Jai Ram Thakur. She said that Municipal Council Nahan would be provided all possible help to making it a model municipality. She said that under the ‘Shresth Shehar Yojana’ award of Rs 1 crore would be given to the most clean municipality. She said Rs 35 lakh would be spent on construction of shelter home at Nahan.Senior BJP leader Shri Deendayal Verma and Member State Executive BJP Shri Vinay Gupta welcomed the Chief Minister and other dignitaries on the occasion.Chairperson Nagar Parishad Nahan Smt. Anita Sharma highlighted various milestones achieved by the Nahan Municipal Council. MLA Pachhad Shri Suresh Kashyap, BJP General Secretary Shri Chander Mohan Thakur, former Minister Smt Shyama Sharma, former MLAs Shri Baldev Tomar and Shri Kush Parmar, State Kissan Morcha Chief Shri Baldev Bhandari and senior leader Shri Ajay Bahadur were present on this occasion.
