Work at Kishen Ganga project suspends after workers stages protest

Work was suspended today on 330 Megawatt Kishen Ganga Hydro Electric Power Project (KGHEPP) at Mantrigam Bandipora following a protest held by the worker's, who were allegedly beaten by security guards deployed during interlocutor's visit.Dozens of workers early today staged a protest outside NHPC office at Mantrigam when they were not allowed by security to enter the main gate of the office. The gate was closed after district administration chose NHPC office as a venue for the public meet to be held with the interlocutor Dineshwar Sharma today.“As the local NHPC workers reached the gate they were not allowed to attend the office which infuriated them leading to a minor scuffle with few security guards,” an official

Workers were joined by locals and raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans staged a protest. Two workers identified as Reyaz Ahmed Malik and Bilal Ahmed Tantray sustain injuries during the scuffle with security forces. Meanwhile, General Manager NHPC told  that they are in the process to sort out the issue with the locals. (PTK)
