Anantnag gunfight ends with killing of two militants

The encounter that started between the government forces and militants last night in Dooru area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district has ended with the killing of two militants, police said today.“The encounter is over and two militants were killed and arms & ammunition recovered,” said the police, in a tweet. The police spokesman said that as a part of a joint operation, Islamabad police along with 19 RR and CRPF launched a search in Shishtargam area of P/S Dooru which resulted in an encounter with hiding militants.In the ongoing encounter, 2 militants have been killed. The identity and affiliation of the killed militants are being ascertained.In the process huge cache of incriminating material which includes AK 47 rifles, grenades etc were recovered from the encounter site.In the said encounter no collateral damage has taken place and security forces are now sanitizing the area, a spokesman said.In this connection, a case has been registered and the investigation has been taken up under the relevant provisions of the law by the Police. Meanwhile Train services have been suspended in South Kashmir as a precautionary measure following the killing of two militants. “We have suspended train services in South Kashmir for security reasons,” a railway official said.

However, trains continued to chug on Srinagar-Budgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north Kashmir as per schedule, officials said.According to reports hundreds of youth shouting pro-freedom and anti-governmental slogans assembled near the encounter site and pelted government forces with stones.Sources said that forces deployed in the village fired tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters.Reports also said that clashes also erupted in Dialgam area, twenty kilometres from the encounter site. Police resorted to the aerial firing to disperse the protestors.However Internet services have been suspended in South Kashmir’s Islamabad, Kulgam following the killing of two militants in Dooru area of South Kashmir for ‘security reasons’.Meanwhile authorities today shifted the venue of all the 12th class bi-annual examinations centres to District Institutes of Education Trainings centre Khanabal Islamabad, which was scheduled on March 24, 2018.The order came in the wake of encounter that broke out on Saturday morning between the government force and militants in Dooru area of Anantnag district, resulting in the killing of two militants.When contacted Chief Education Officer Anantnag he told Press Trust of Kashmir that the bi-annual exam of the 12th class will be held at DIET office at 2 pm, “another date will be announced for those students we couldn’t make it to the DIET office today.” “We will not let the students suffer,” he added.Later Police issue statement Preliminary investigation suggests that both the killed Militants are FTs from Pakistan.
