Chief Secretary Administers Oath To Officers/Employees Of Punjab Civil Secretariat Aimed At Eradication Of Drugs

On the directions of the Chief Minister,Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh the Chief Secretary Mr. Karan Avtar Singh today administered oath to all the officers/employees of the Punjab Civil Secretariat for eradication of drugs from State. Many senior IAS officers were also present on the occasion.Disclosing this, an official spokesman said that the Punjab Government has already constituted a Special Task Force (STF) aimed at eliminating drugs and now the Drug Abuse Prevention Officers (DAPO) programme is being implemented on the instructions of the Chief Minister so as to make every native of Punjab take a pledge to neither indulge themselves in drugs nor let anybody else do it.The spokesman also said that those taking oath for eradicating drugs would be declared Drug Abuse Prevention Officer and the officer would make the common people aware about the deadly diseases caused by drugs consumption. Also, the youth would be guided regarding the ill effects of drugs so as to create a healthy society by weaning the youth away from drugs.On the occasion, the spokesman further said that the main purpose of this campaign on the martyrdom day of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Sukhdev and Shaheed Rajguru is to pay genuine and heartfelt homage to these martyrs and save young generation from the drugs. The spokesman also elaborated that 23rd March is dedicated towards 'Youth Empowerment' and from now onwards the day would be observed as 'Youth Empowerment Day'.
