The State Government was committed to provide a safe and secure environment to the women of the State so that they could contribute towards development of the State. This was stated by Chief Minister Shri Jai Ram Thakur while presiding over the 46th All Indian Police Congress organized by the Himachal Pradesh Police Department and The Bureau of Police Research and Development here today.Shri Jai Ram Thakur said that maintaining best law and order in the State was the top priority of the State Government. He said that focus of the Government was to check drug peddling, particularly involvement of youth in these activities. He said that ‘Gudiya Helpline’ and ‘Shakti Button App.’ have been launched in the State for women safety. The main object of these initiatives was to provide immediate assistance to women at the time of distress, he added.The Chief Minister said that the endeavour of the State Government was to ensure optimum use of modern technology for ensuring effective law and order situation in the State. He said the State Police Department has been adjudged as the best State in implementation of CCTNS Project. He said that it was the need of the hour to think out of the box to enhance police functioning and maximize use to technology in day to day police functioning. He said the social media has revolutionized the new medium of communication and the law enforcing agencies can no longer ignore its potential in various policing functions. Though police and citizens have different perceptions and priorities about social media, it can prove very useful to bridge the gap between the police and public, he added.

Jai Ram Thakur said that use of crypto currency or virtual currency was being used  now a days and the law enforcing agencies must understand it fully and evolve mechanism to counter its misuse in crimes. He said that it was necessary to have good knowledge of information the technology to solve different crimes. He said conferences of such magnitude not only help in upgrading the police skill but also goes a long way in providing efficient services to the general public.The Chief Minister said that drug abuse, particularly by the younger generation was another area of concern. He said that although seizure of drugs was a way to curb the supply of drugs, but the best way to check this social vice was to end it from where it begins that is cultivation of such crops. Destruction of illicit crops such as cannabis, opium poppy etc. should be the main strategies to cut down the supply of such drugs, he added.Shri Jai Ram Thakur said that better understanding of these issues  was imperative to deliver quality services to the people and live up to their expectations of providing safe and secure crime free environment to them.Later the Chief Minister inaugurated the exhibition on different investigation and police assistance equipments on the occasion,DGP HP Shri S.R Mardi while welcoming the Chief Minister and other dignitaries said that the State police was committed to provide best law and order situation to the people of the State. He also thanked the Chief Minister for providing all possible help to the State Police to organize this conference.Director General of BRP and D Shri A.P Maheshwari also spoke on the occasion.Shri Anurag Garg ADGP law and Order presented vote of thanks.Education and Law Minister Shri Suresh Bhardwaj, Senior Police officers from different states participated in the conference.
