On this International Women’s Day, the women folk of Punjab is basking in the glory of pride and self esteem, when President of India today conferred the coveted National “Nari Shakti Puraskar” to the State of Punjab for making outstanding contribution towards women empowerment. This prestigious award was conferred to the state of Punjab during a grand function organized at Rashtarpati Bhawan, New Delhi on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Mrs. Razia Sultana, Social Security and Women and Child Development Minister Punjab received the award on behalf of Mr. Amarinder Singh, Chief Minister, Punjab. Mr. K.B.S. Sidhu , Special Chief Secretary (SS & WCD) and Mrs. Kavita Singh, Director (SS & WCD) were accompanying Mrs. Razia Sultana for receiving the award.Disclosing this Mrs. Razia Sultana, Social Security Minister said that this time, State of Punjab has been selected for the ‘Nari Shakti Puraskar 2017’ for its consistent efforts and work demonstrating improvement in Sex Ratio at Birth under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme. She said that that state of Punjab has made tremendous efforts and progress for improving Sex Ratio at Birth. She proudly said that District Tarn Taran has been selected among the best 10 districts of the country where Sex Ratio at Birth has improved remarkably in limited span of time. She said that of Social Security and Women and Child Development Department, Punjab along with Department of Health and Education Department, Punjab has been doing work at the grassroot level in 20 districts of the state for improving Sex Ratio at Birth. She said that increasing trends in Sex Ratio at Birth are being recorded in other districts of the state.Social Security Minister dedicated this “Nari Shakti Puraskar” to women folk of Punjab for maintaining the high morals and values of life and to their sheer dedication and hard work in making Punjab a better livable place. The minister also thanked Chief Minister Amarinder Singh for his visionary and dynamic leadership and for being the true champion of the women cause.
