Forest Minister Gobind Thakur said that green cover in the state will be enhanced with active involvement of all the stakeholders. Forest cover is important not only for the state but for the entire country as forests provide oxygen necessary to reduce growing carbon content in the air.He said Forest Department has been engaged not only in afforestation activities, but also restoration and upgradation of degraded forest land into bustling green areas. The State Government has received approval of Rs. six crores eco-restoration projects for Nachan forest division in Mandi district and for Kullu forest divisions.Shri Gobind Thakur said that National Mission on Himalayan Studies has approved Rs. 3 crore project on eco-restoration and upgradation of degraded forest land into an eco model for forest division Kullu. The Mission also accorded its approval of Rs. 3 crore for eco-restoration in forest division Nachan in Mandi district.He said the focus of the project will be on eco-restoration of degraded forest areas.
