JKSCW organizes 2-day Legal Awareness Camp on Women's Rights at Ramban

A two-day Legal Awareness Camp on Women Rights and Legislations organized by Jammu and Kashmir State Commission for Women (JKSCW) in collaboration with the National Commission for Women, New Delhi begin here today at Ramban.Chairperson, State Commission for Women, Nayeema Ahmad Mehjoor, who was also the chief guest on the occasion inaugurated the camp while ADDC Ramban Ravinder Nath Sadhu, Secretary, SCW Aijaz Abdullah, DSWO, Mohit Bharti, CDPO, Shakeela Saleem besides other concerned officers and students from several schools and colleges participated in the programme.Speaking on the occasion, the Chairperson stressed upon the female folks to be acquainted with their legal rights and understand the procedure of access to the legal institutions and encouraged them to come forward in raising their issues.Highlighting various aspects of women's rights and legislations, Nayeema Ahmad said the government has made several Acts to safeguard the rights of women and they must approach the concerned institution during any peculiar circumstances.Child abuse, dowry-related violence, domestic violence, eve-teasing and other related crimes against women are manifestations of various forms of social evils prevailing in our society and we need to fight these collectively, she asserted.Nayeema Ahmad further divulged at length on provisions of the Constitution and Legislations by virtue of which such issues can be redressed and victims are brought out of distressful condition.Advocate Balbir Singh and Advocate Bahar Ahmed delivered lecture on Hindu Marriage Act and Muslim Personal Law Board respectively besides Sexual Harassment-a form of sexual violence against women while other speakers also threw light on social status and issues of women.Later, an interactive session was held between the students and resource persons.
