The President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee and Lok Sabha Member Mr. Sunil Jakhar today said that NDA Government was showing green pastures to farmers of enhancing their income without having minute details regarding farming in the country. The PPCC President said that Center does not have the appropriate statistics about the plight of the farmers and in such a scenario the Union Government is misleading the countrymen by just showing day dreams of doubling the income of the farmers without any concrete planning.Mr. Jakhar said that the reply to his question regarding the income of the farmers in the Lok Sabha, given by the Minister of State for Agriculture and farmer welfare Ministry Mr. Gajinder Singh Shekhawat itself is contradictory to the claims of Union Government regarding its plan to double the income of farmers till year 2022.Mr. Jakhar said that he had been asked the question from Ministry about the statement of Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Subramanyam that the actual income of those farmers who are producing non-grains crops was decreasing. Apart from this, he had also sought information regarding the number of farmers who cultivate other crops than the food grains and the efforts being made to supplement the government's claim to double the income of farmer in country.

In response to these questions, the Union Government acknowledges that besides the food grain crops, the central government does not have any particular information about other crops grown in country and farmers engaged in growing non-food grain crops. Mr. Jakhar said that when there are no exact figures regarding the cultivation of crops other than food grain crops, then what can be expected from the government of India regarding any concrete planning in this regard. He said that on one hand the Prime Minister did not leave any chance to politicize the issues of farmers and repeatedly repeating that the income of the farmers would be doubled by year 2022 whereas on the other hand the central government had no policy regarding this.Mr. Jakhar said that the government has not yet stepped up its mandate to double the income of the farmers. He said that the Union Government has constituted an inter-ministerial committee in this regard on April 13, 2016, whose recommendation has yet waiting comments from public, while after the formation of this committee nearly two years has been passed on. Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President said that NDA government is just selling the dreams to the countrymen and in fact nothing is being done for the welfare of the farmers. He said that at present the country's farmer is in a very pitiable condition but instead of resolving the problems of the farmers, the Prime Minister Modi's government is being made conditions further worse and bad for them.
