Egyptians Storm to Victory in First Ever Karate Event

At Arab Women’s Sports TournamentAlgeria come second, with UAE earning well-deserved Bronze

With an overall tally of four gold medals, National Bank of Egypt has taken top spot on the Karate podium in the first time the event has been held as part of the Arab Women’s Sports Tournament 2018 (AWST). Close behind, but unable to keep up the pressure was the Algerian Sports Association with three gold medals and one bronze and in third place, the UAE with a total of one gold, one silver and one bronze.In the Kumite competitions, Yasmine Hamdi secured a win in the 55kg finals putting Egypt on a roll, with more golds coming from Nariman Mohammed in the under 61kg class and Neda Khalid in the under 68kg category.The day was rounded off perfectly for the Egyptian club as they defeated the Algerian Sports Association 2-1 in the finals of team competition.


Algeria Outstanding in Kata Competitions

Although the Karate experts from Egypt were in outstanding form, the Algerians were always in contention and completely dominated the Kata competitions after Manal Kamlieh secured a sweeping 5-0 win over Salama Jassim from the Sharjah Sports Club for Women in the individual finals.Algerian Sports Association also continued to show their strength with a 3-2 win over the Sharjah Sports Club for Women in the team Kata competitions.

Emirati Howra Clinches Gold Medal in Under 50kg Kumite 

In a convincing 2-0 win, 22-year-old Emirati Howra Mohammed Abbas from Al Nasr Club won gold in the under 50kg Kumite and secured the UAE’s highly respectable third place in the overall event.
