Residents of this frontier district are up in arms against the Power Development Department as they are facing unscheduled power cuts. Unscheduled and extended power cuts have started aggravating the woes of locals in Kupwara and have been witnessing frequent energy cuts putting the consumers to inconvenience to both metered and un-metered areas in Kupwara District.Residents of Kupwara town and its outskirts while talking to PTK said that, “The Department doesn’t adhere to the schedule due to which the students preparing for examination are facing hardships,” they added.“When PDD installed meters in our area we were told that we would get power supply round the clock, but their promises turned out to be a hoax,” residents said. The situation in un-metered and remote villages of Kupwara, Langate, Handwara, Kralpora, Trehgam, Hayhama and valley Lolab is no different. Many remote villages, including Badkoot, Rajpora, kalmoona, Hafrada, Rangward, Marseri, Shalal and other areas  are facing acute power shortage.  In Drugmulla, vodhpora, Muhgalpora, power supplied from Arampora grid station is disrupted after every half an hour. “PDD resorts to continuous power cuts,” locals said. “Even in the evenings, the electricity plays hide and seek. We have approached government several times to provide us normal supply, but rather than improving supply, it has deteriorated,” they said. The students said that they couldn’t prepare for exams because of power cuts. “We can’t study properly as electricity plays hide and seek,” said Tariq Ahmad Mir, a student. (PTK)
