Excise and Taxation Commissioner ordered to take strict action against illicit trade of tobacco

Commissioner, Excise and Taxation ordered to take strict action against the wholesalers who are involved in the business of illicit trade of tobacco products. He wrote all Assistant Commissioners of the department to take strict action against those who are stocking, supplying and selling the banned tobacco products. Government of Punjab has expelled the scented, flavoured and chewable tobacco in the state yet it’s easily available at every point of sale. Mohali based NGO, Generation Saviour Association who is working since 1996 in the field of tobacco control gave the evidence to the Director (Investigation), Excise and Taxation and requested to take firm action. On taking cognition, state body issued a directive order for the concerned officers to insure the compliance of state government’s notification. S-4, S-10, Dabang, S Plus etc. are the famous scented, flavoured and chewable tobacco products which are banned by state govt under Food Safety and Standard Act. Smuggled cigarette packs like Black, Mond, Marso, Gudang Garam, Dunhill, Pine are effortlessly available in the market. These cigarette packs also violates section 7 of Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 because it has no Graphic Health Warning as per specifications.
