Several legislators participated in the discussion on recent firing and killings in Shopian. The Discussion was allowed by the Speaker Legislative Assembly after the opposition members moved an adjournment motion in the House this morning.  Ali Mohammad Sagar initiated the discussion and demanded strict action against persons named in the FIR lodged by police in connection with the firing incident and the killings.The NC legislator demanded immediate arrest of the accused and completion of the probe initiated by the Government within a fortnight. He called for initiating a political process to put an end to the cycle of killings and recurrent violent protests, which he said cannot be found through the security prism. Mr Sagar further said that such incidents lead to grave consequence as these are contributing in losing political space for the mainstream political parties in the Valley. He also called for exercising maximum restraint while dealing with such incidents.

  The Leader of Opposition Omar Abdullah called for a permanent solution to the issue. e said the central government is very strong and has the capability to resolve the issues confronting the state. Omar cautioned against, what he said, playing politics on the dead bodies and asked the house to rise above party politics, speak in one voice and introspect why such tragic incidents are taking place frequently. He said now that FIR has been lodged in the Shopian incident, the Police should be allowed to do their job as names of accused have been mentioned in the FIR.He urged the house to speak in one voice to send out a message that the bloodshed has to stop and guilty would be punished. He said his party will support the government in its all endeavours that would help to put an end to the bloodshed and help restore calm and peace in the Valley.Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami called for ending what he said use of excessive force and pelts against the protestors. He suggested for moving a resolution in the House to urge the Union government for initiating a serious political dialogue in the State involving all the stakeholders.

Mohammad Yousuf Bhat called for immediate action and arrests in connection with the FIR registered in the firing incident and completion of the probe ordered by the government within the stipulated time.R S Pathania appreciated the adjournment motion and called for initiating a probe into the incident and its completion within the stipulated time. He, however, called for the withdrawal of FIR which he said has been registered in a haste adding instead a probe should be conducted into the attack on the Army.  He also endorsed the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s doctrine with regard to Jammu and Kashmir.Gulzar Ahmad Wani called for collective efforts by all to restore peace and tranquillity in the State while rising about the political affiliations. He expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the State, especially in Kashmir Valley and sought an immediate end to civilian killings.

Hakeem Mohammad Yasin called for serious efforts to restore calm. He also called for observing utmost restraint while dealing with street protests to avoid civilian casualties. He also demanded a transparent probe into the Shopian firing incident.Bashir Ahmad Dar condemned the killings and hailed the government's decision to order a judicial probe. He opined such incidents would have stopped if those found guilty in the past would have been brought to justice. He said the gun is not a solution to the problem and urged for a meaningful dialogue.  Mian Altaf said the administration should have shown some alertness in view of the inputs. He said the government needs to open political channels to fill the vacuum between the government and the people. He suggested that the political leaders should be cautious while issuing statements to avoid provocation.Pawan Kumar Gupta also condemned the incident and said such incidents should not occur in future. He called for taking steps to revive brotherhood, co-existence and harmony for which Kashmir Valley is known. He also called for a probe and said that house should be informed about the facts of the incident so that truth comes to fore.
