Minister for Health and Medical Education Bali Bhagat, replying to a question of MLC Firdous Ahmad Tak, informed the House that the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) has declined considerably in J&K.The Minister informed that IMR, which was 51 in 2007, declined to 24 in 2016 which is better than the national average of 34.The Minister further informed that the hospitals handled 125879 child birth cases till November 2017; 194632 in 2016-17 and 191151 in 2015-16.  Giving details of newborn care units functioning in the state, the Minister informed that there are 24 Special Newborn Care Units, 76 Newborn Stabilization Units and 281 Newborn Care Corners facilitating the people in various districts of the state.Legislators Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Javed Ahmad Mirchail and Ramesh Arora also raised supplementary to the main question.
