Pakistan has declared that it would give a befitting response to any American action in country’s settled areas. Asked what would be Pakistan’s response if the US conducted drone strikes in settled areas of Pakistan, the FO spokesperson said the military had already stated that “any such actions would get a befitting response.Questioned why Pakistan did not respond strongly to US President Donald Trump’s accusations, he said: “The National Security Committee of the cabinet is the highest forum and has come out with a comprehensive statement which fully covers our response to President Trump’s (anti-Pakistan) tweet.”Addressing the weekly media briefing on Thursday, Foreign Officespokesperson Dr Mohammed Faisal said Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Yasin Malik’s letter to Indian external affairs minister “bears witness to the Indian gimmickry and the situation of human rights in Indian jails.”The spokesperson said Pakistan was clear and not “confused like India” which has put “travel restraints on sportsmen and general public visiting for religious purposes.”He said that Pakistan believed that the dialogue was the ultimate modeof resolving disputes. To another question regarding India’s arms build-up, the spokesperson said Pakistan had always maintained that anti-ballistic missile systems entail instability in the region and provoke armed race.He said Pakistan was desirous of a peaceful neighbourhood in which countries utilised their resources for the betterment of the common man instead of squandering them in a futile arms race. Dr Faisal said Pakistan was fully committed to and has proposed to India some restraint measures to promote strategic stability. (PTK)
