MLC, Saif-ud-Din Bhat today chaired a meeting of the Committee on Petition of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council  to discuss and examine the issues regarding the petition submitted by Dr B K Thakur on behalf of people of Marwah-Dachchan and Kishtwar against Chenab Valley Power Project (CVPP).Legislators, Ghulam Nabi Monga, Sham Lal Bhagat , Firdous Ahmed Tak and Javid Ahmed Mirchal attended the meeting and gave their suggestions for early redressal of the issues highlighted in the Petition.Threadbare discussion was held on the issues which inter alia include provision of employment to the members of those families whose houses, lands and other properties have been affected due to the power projects in Chenab River basin in Marwah-Dachchan district Kishtwar. The Committee directed the concerned authorities of CVPP to take immediate steps to stop the recruitment process till the final decision of the Committee and keep in abeyance Adv No: CVPP/HR/Rect/2017/01 dated 15-11-2017 and corrigendum dated 15-12-2017 for recruitment in CVPP Pakhal-Dul-Keru-Kitwar Hydro electrical Power Projects in Chenab basin in district Kishtwar.

The Committee observed that advertisement and corrigendum have been issued without keeping in mind the interests of the land holders whose land is going to be submerged in the Reservoir. The compensation is not sufficed for the affected families for their whole life and this is imperative that one of the family member should be given employment in the project. The Committee directed the authorities of Council Secretariat to write a letter to Chairman CVPP, Commissioner Secretary, Power Development Department and Managing Director, JKPDC to attend the next meeting to be held in this regard.Among others, Special Secretary Council, Mohammad Ashraf Wani, Deputy Secretary, Council Bansi Lal Pandita besides other senior officers of Council Secretariat attended the meeting.
