Road Safety awareness Camp held at Ramban

Highway Traffic Police today organized a road safety public awareness camp at Bus Stand Ramban. The awareness camp was attended by District Development Commissioner Ramban M H Malik, DIG Doda Kishtwar Ramban Range Ashkoor Wani, S P Ramban Javaid Ahmed Matoo , Xen PWD and ARTO-Motor Vehicle Department, Local Police and Traffic Police Officers. Besides, a huge number of local transporters, traders, hoteliers, prominent citizens, NGOs and road users/drivers also attended the camp.

“In view of the growing road accidents across the country, the Road Safety Week is being organized across the country with the aim to educate people about the use of roads and safety measures to be taken so as to avoid road accidents. Avoiding road accidents means saving precious human lives,” Highway Traffic Police statement said.The programme commenced by SP Ramban Javaid Ahmed Matoo who welcomed the guests and presented the resume of the programme organised by the police department.

DDC Ramban Mr Malik said, “As a part of Road Safety Week, different activities have been taken up by Highway Traffic Police like jointly organizing road march with MVD involving school children. Medical fitness and eye testing camps for drivers, display of educating banners and distribution of different types of printed posters like Teach Your Child Safe Crossing Habits, Safety for Children-Know your School Bus, Nine Common Driving Mistakes, Driving under Special Conditions, Tips for Pedestrians and Facts about Road Safety also form the part of Road Safety Week,”.

DIG Police Ashkoor Wani while speaking on the occasion highlighted the concerns of growing road accidents and stressed that Traffic Rules are in place only for the safety of its users. “There is need for a change in attitude, for using roads cautiously and seriously”, he said. He sought cooperation of road users in implementing the Traffic Rules/Laws on ground. He also stressed that all the stakeholders have to work together to make safety possible in real sense.

On this occasion, a passenger shed constructed by PWD Ramban was jointly inaugurated by DDC Ramban and DIG Ashkoor Wani.While concluding DDC Ramban thanked all the participants, officers, medical team, media and transporters/drivers for making the programme success and reaffirmed to them that Highway Traffic Police is committed for safety of people on Road.
