The Secretary PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Department today inspected the progress of ongoing dredging and other flood protection works executed by Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) department under Prime Ministers Development plan (PMDP).The Secretary was accompanied by Chief Engineer, Kashmir Irrigation and Flood Control and the concerned engineers of the department. The Secretary inspected various sites where the dredging work is going on and enquired about the progress of the dredging achieved by the department so far.He was informed that a total dredging of 4.98 Lac cum out of 7.00 Lac cum has been executed till date.While inspecting the dredging work being executed near Lal Ded hospital, the concerned Executive Engineer was directed to get material dumped in the dykes lifted so that free flow of the water is allowed.The Secretary also inspected the works being carried out on the flood spill channel and directed the concerned to speed up the pace of work so that project is completed well within the stipulated time. He carried forward the inspection tour to Sopore- Baramulla reaches of River Jhelum, where the concerned engineers informed the Secretary that a dredging of 5.02 lac cum out of 9.15 lac cum has been dredged out till date.He directed the executing agency to complete the rest of dredging work from RD-5.30 to RD-6.14 Km & at RD-9.0 KM within two days positively.The Secretary also visited the Narbal-Bemina stretch and also issued strict instructions to the Superintending Engineer Hydraulic Circle Baramulla & the Executive Engineer I & FC Division Baramulla to complete the dredging within the fixed timeline. The Secretary also took review meeting of works being executed under the project “Priority works - Comprehensive Flood Management Plan Phase – I” under PMDP on river Jhelum including the flood spill channel with concerned.
