Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta today emphasized on National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to take necessary steps for early approval of four-laning and two-laning of important flyover projects at Greater Kailash, Kunjwani and Sainik Colony so that the works on the proposed projects could be started at the earliest.The Speaker expressed hope that the Centre would consider the issue of early approval of Rs. 380 crore project which will be of great help towards decongestion of traffic on these proposed junctions.The Speaker said this during a meeting convened to discuss various facilities proposed to be provided on National Highway from Vijaypur to Sidhra as part of Pathankot to Jammu National Highway. He said that after the completion of this project, the people of the area could get respite in coming days from traffic congestion at the places. Project Director, NHAI, Ajay Kumar informed about the proposed plan of the projects and the steps that can be taken by the concerned authorities to start the work on the projects.

He also informed about proposed construction plan of four-laning of flyovers at SIDCO Junction in Bari Brahmana starting from SIDCO Junction to Om Hospital Bari Brahmana and a flyover at Greater Kailash Junction-II at Jammu Byepass besides about 2 lane flyovers at Kunjwani Junction starting from Choudhary Palace to near Vishal Mega Mart.He also informed about the proposed construction plan of foot over bridges near Kalu Chak, Malik Market near Masjid, Chichi Mata Temple besides two-laning of major bridge across River Devak at Vijaypur. He also informed about proposed plan to construct new roads under Bridges (RUB) at Jammu Bypass at Greater Kailash besides construction of Pedestrian underpass at Sainik Colony. He informed that the works have been proposed including improvement of drains at various locations from Kunjwani to Narwal and improvement of Junctions at Qasim Nagar, Narwal Chowk, Wave Mall Junction and Channi Himmat Junction, near Jammu Darbar Restaurant. It was also given out in the meeting that works on protection of field slopes have been proposed from Narwal to Sidhra and Road Safety Work throughout the whole stretch from Vijaypur to Sidhra.

It was also informed about the Periodic Renewal by Resurfacing and Operation and Maintenance (O&M) works for Vijaypur to Kunjwani and Jammu Bypass Section from Kunjwani to Sidhra of Pathankot-Jammu Section.Engineer, PIU NHAI, Vaishnav Sharma, Private Secretary, Assembly Kuldeep Raj besides senior officers of NHAI and Assembly Secretariat were present in the meeting.Javaid Mustafa emphasizes effective mechanism to redress public grievances, prompt service deliveryJAMMU, DECEMBER 29: Minister for Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitationand Reconstruction (DMRRR), Javaid Mustafa Mir, today convened an officers meeting to review functioning of the department. Among others Commissioner/Secretary, DMRRR, Shafiq Ahmed Raina, Relief Commissioner (Migrants) Manohar Lal Raina, Director (Finance) Jhelum Tawi Flood Recovery Project, Mohamed Yusuf Pandit, Director (Finance) DMRRR, Zahoor Ahmed Wani, Director Disaster Management, Aamir Ali, Deputy Commissioner (Relief) Migrants, KK Sidha and other officials were present in the meeting.The Minister, while taking stock of migrant issues, asked the Relief Commissioner (Migrants) to evolve an effective mechanism to redress the grievances of these people. He also reviewed the progress on upgradation works at migrant camps at Budgam and Vessu in the Valley besides assessing repair works being done in the migrant flats at Jagti, Muthi, Nagrota and Purkhu. He directed the concerned to expedite these works and adhere to time-lines without compromising on quality of the constructions. He gave instructions that all the works should be put to e-Tenders, in accordance with the laid down framework, to ensure transparency and ensure strict adherence to financial codes.

While reviewing the Disaster Management sector, the Minister exhorted upon the officers to focus on preparedness and mitigation which is pre-requisite for ensuring adequate and timely relief and rehabilitation measures to the affected people. He emphasized the need to ensure that adequate rescue equipments, with trained staff are made available at District and Tehsil level. He also asked the department to launch an awareness campaign to make the public aware of preventive measures to be taken in case of any natural disaster.
