Army organized Cricket Tournament at Awantipora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The tournament which took off on 21 Sep 2017 was played on a T20 format with participation of 64 teams from various districts of South Kashmir and finally culminated on 22 Dec 2017 with the final match between Chandhara Cricket Club and Wanpura Eleven. The spectators witnessed a nail biting finish with Chandhara Cricket Club taking the Winning spot by defeating Wanpura Eleven by 23 runs.As per a statement issued by Army, the Chief Guest on the occasion, Maj Gen BS Raju, GOC Victor Force felicitated both the teams for their outstanding performance and exhorted them to keep up the spirit of sports in the region. While giving away trophies and prizes to both the teams, Gen Raju also emphasized the need to further sharpen individual and collective sporting skills. He stressed upon the important role of sports as a constructive and positive bridge across the entire valley towards its march for peace. The winning team was presented with a cheque of Rs 30000 and the runner up team was given a cheque of Rs 15000 as a motivational incentive. The GOC Victor Force also took this mega event as an opportunity to felicitate Bashir Ahmad (handicap, a tailor by profession), resident of Chandhara village by presenting him a handicapped scooter.
