A faction of Doctors Association Kashmir led by Dr Suhail Nayak Friday staged protest against repeated threats to doctors during duty hours. They demanded that Government should bring a legislation on the pattern of other states of India making assault on doctors, paramedical staff during duty hours and damage to hospitals a “non-bailable offence. The protest was registered after a video showing a police officer intimidating a doctor on duty went viral. “This is not an isolated incident. Frequently, doctors are being threatened and assaulted in the hospitals. If the trend doesn’t stop, we will hit to roads on daily basis,” Dr Suhail Nayak told reporters. “How can you justify the storming of a responsible police officerinto the Trauma hospital at Qazigund trying to force the doctor on duty to sign a medico-legal form of an accident case which had taken place in May 2017,” he said and thanked government for prompt action against the erring police officer. “The police officer not only threatened the doctor but wanted to implicate him in a false rape case,” Dr Nayak said.
