A meeting of Department Related Standing Committee (DRSC-III) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council was held here today under the Chairmanship of MLC, Surinder Kumar Choudhary to discuss status of works of Roads and Buildings department. Legislators, Showkat Ahmad Ganai, Charanjeet Singh, Thakur Balbir Singh attended the meeting and gave their valuable suggestions to make the department more viable and result oriented. Commissioner Secretary, R&B Sanjeev Verma briefed the Committee about the functioning of the department and presented a detailed status of various projects being executed by R&B.During the meeting, Chairman took stock of status of 5 bridges taken up at Nowshera, Rajouri and directed the department to resume work on these projects at the earliest. He also stressed on the concerned authorities to formulate a plan for construction of a tunnel from Tanda to Chouki-Chora.While briefing about the status of Partli Bridge, the Commissioner R&B informed the committee that department will receive a complete design for the bridge from IIT Rurkee and after finalization the work would be started.
The Committee directed BRO authorities to complete ongoing works on Akhnoor-Poonch road and other roads of the area in time. It also stressed on them to maintain quality of material being used in road constructions so that durable assets are created in the state.Among others Deputy Director, Engineering staff and officers from BRO were also present in the meeting.Later, Surinder Kumar Choudhary chaired another meeting of the Committee to discuss the functioning of Health and Medical Education Department.Legislators, Zafar Iqbal Manhas, Firdous Tak and Showkat Ganai attended the meeting and highlighted the issues regarding the development of health institutions in the state.The Committee directed the concerned authorities to set up a control room at GMC for the convenience of general public during the emergencies. It also stressed upon concerned agencies to take all necessary steps to launch a sanitation drive in the health institutions of the state.Principal Secretary, Health and Medical Education briefed the Committee about the steps taken by the concerned department to improve the functioning of the health institutions so that the people do not face any difficulty on this account.
